With the acceleration of globalization, the handicraft industry is facing unprecedented challenges and opportunities. The biggest issue for the handicraft industry comes from the standardization of product craftsmanship. The standardization management and innovation of the handicraft industry are complementary processes. Standardization management is the foundation for the development of the handicraft industry. By establishing unified production standards, quality standards, and craftsmanship standards, the quality stability and market competitiveness of handicraft products can be ensured. Standardization management not only helps to improve production efficiency but also provides strong support for the promotion and sale of handicraft products.

Innovation is the key to the sustainable development of the handicraft industry. On the basis of standardization, the handicraft industry should continuously explore new design ideas, material applications, and production technologies. Designers and craftsmen can combine modern design concepts with traditional crafts through interdisciplinary cooperation, creating handicraft products that are contemporary and rich in cultural connotations.

By moderately standardizing and innovating while retaining the essence of traditional crafts, the handicraft industry can not only adapt to the needs of the modern market but also stand out in fierce competition, achieving sustainable development.

Founded in 2015, the "MOM’S HANDWORK" project is dedicated to modernizing, popularizing, and socializing China's traditional high-quality handicraft culture. As a promoter of traditional Chinese handicrafts, MOM’S HANDWORK sorts out and transforms traditional Chinese aesthetics and craftsmanship, collaborating with international designers to create products that align with globalized aesthetics and carry the symbols of Eastern culture.

By establishing standards and providing training, the project helps artisans master modern management skills while protecting and inheriting traditional skills. With standardization and innovation, the handicraft industry can not only maintain its cultural value but also find opportunities to survive and develop in changing market.

Speakers

Fang Ying, President, Beijing Fashion Designers Association

Graduated from Central Academy of Fine Arts (Tsinghua University Academy of Arts & Design). Studied at the Paris Couture School. She is the winner of China's highest fashion design award, the "JIN DING Award", and also "Top Ten Fashion Designers in China". She was employed in 2008 Beijing Olympics, as head designer of the opening ceremony of the 29th Olympic Games fashion studio. Her notable fashion shows include: "Dream of the Yellow River" (New York), part of the China Cultural Tour in the USA; and “New and Old” (Louvre, Paris), part of the China-France Cultural Year.

Liu Wentao, Professor, Central academy of Fine Arts

Graduated with a BFA from Department of Printmaking, Central Academy of Fine Arts.

He was a lecture in Pacific Northwest College of Art in Portland and worked for Foundation Pillar l Joan Miro in 2000. He then worked for University of Massachusetts in 2004. He now teaches in City Design School of Central academy of Fine Arts since 2006.

Xiong Wenjie, Tie-Dyeing Artist

He has been a tie-dyeing technician since 1980. He then established an tie-dyeing factory in 1994. He has been recognized as a inheritor of the intangible cultural heritage in Dali, Yunnan. In 2022, he set up the Weishan Tie-dyeing Art Rural Revitalization Inheritance Base in the Dali Cultural Ecological Protection Area. The "Tie-dyeing Machine" he invented was granted a "Patent for Invention" and he obtained two "Design Patents" for tie-dyed fabric patterns. He compiled the Tie-dyeing Needlework Archives and insists on organizing "Tie-dyeing Inheritance - Labor Skills Training". His efforts in driving employment and poverty alleviation for rural workers earned him the "2019 Typical Entrepreneur" honor and the "Yunnan May Day Labor Medal".
